Anne Waldman and Devin Brahja Waldman at St Mark’s Bookshop, New York, NY
For our first event of the new year, we’re thrilled to host renowned poet (and great friend of the store) Anne Waldman.
Anne will be reading/performing new work from recent books “Gossamurmur” (Penguin Poets), “Jaguar Harmonics” (Post-Apollo), new CDs, and will introduce the Naropa anthology “CROSS WORLDS: Transcultural Poetics” (Coffee House Press). She will be accompanied by her nephew Devin “Brahja” Waldman on saxophone.
Anne Waldman, deemed a counter-cultural giant by Publisher’s Weekly, is the author of over 40 books, was key founder and Director of the Poetry Project at St Mark’s Church, and also founder with Allen Ginsberg of the Jack Kerouac School of Disembodied Poetics program at Naropa University in Boulder, CO, where she is the Artistic Director of its famed Summer Writing Program. Recent projects include collaborations with dancer Douglas Dunn, painter Pat Steir, and continuing projects with Fast Speaking Music. She was Guggenheim Fellow for 2013 and is a Chancellor of the Academy of American Poets. Her epic, “The Iovis Trilogy: Colors in the Mechanism of Concealment”, won the PEN Center USA Award. She will be available for Q&A and signing books.
Devin “Brahja” Waldman is a jazz-inspired saxophonist, drummer and composer. He has performed with Anne Waldman, Patti Smith, Thurston Moore and Daniel Carter; he leads Brahja Waldman’s Quintet and is a producer for the label Fast Speaking Music.
