Academy of American Poets Chancellors Reading at the Dodge Poetry Festival; Newark, New Jersey, October 20-23, 2016

October 20-23, 2016
Newark, New Jersey
Specific details to come…
The Academy of American Poets will join forces with the Geraldine R. Dodge Poetry Festival to present its annual Poets Forum weekend of events as part of the festival, the nation’s largest. This will include a reading by the Chancellors of the Academy of American Poets and a series of conversations between the distinguished poets.
This will be the first time that the Academy of American Poets and its Chancellors have presented events at the Dodge Poetry Festival.
“Poetry in our country benefits from having multiple organizations championing its importance, and our organizations benefit when we share resources and opportunities. We’re thrilled that the Dodge Poetry Festival has invited our Chancellors to be a part of their 30th anniversary gathering. And we’re especially excited to present programming in Newark, a city led by a poet, Ras Baraka,” said Jennifer Benka, executive director of the Academy of American Poets.
“It’s amazing to me that this 30th anniversary Dodge Poetry Festival is bringing together what may well be the largest gathering of poets of this stature and diversity ever assembled in North America. This wouldn’t be possible without our partnering with the Academy of American Poets. Together we’ve made Newark, New Jersey, a must destination for anybody who cares about contemporary poetry, or who is even the slightest bit curious about what our living poets might have to say to them,” said Martin Farawell, director of the Dodge Poetry Program.
